The severance pay is a sum of money paid by the employer to the employee in the event of termination of the employment contract at the employer’s initiative, i.e. in the event of economic or disciplinary dismissal.

The payment of this allowance is provided for by law and is intended to compensate for the loss of income suffered by the employee as a result of the termination of his employment contract. It also facilitates the transition from one job to another by providing financial assistance to the redundant employee.

The amount of severance pay is fixed by law and depends on the employee’s length of service in the company. In general, it corresponds to a certain number of months of salary or to a minimum amount fixed by law.

It is important to note that in certain cases, in particular in the case of serious or serious misconduct on the part of the employee, the employer may be exempted from paying severance pay.
